FYI: I just posted a story on this topic at captimes.com.

The academic staff ad hoc committee's report is out. That group sees no need for a restructuring. Paul DeLuca was not available for immediate comment. If I can track him down later in the day, I'll add his quotes to my post.

It's quite interesting that Provost DeLuca points to the consequences of his own funding decisions over many years which culminated in substandard animal facilities and threatened loss of AAALAC accreditation for the School of Medicine and Public Health as evidence that the current administrative research infrastructure is inadequate.

In regard to the story in the WSJ on 10/22, it may be sign of the desperate political (or p.r.) state of the (research) proposal that DeLuca feels compelled to use the most blatant scare tactics, "11th Hour!", "mid-air collision!" as the mechanism to sell this proposal. He has abandoned discussing the actual purpose(s) of establishing the division and is relying on Disaster! Calamity!
Perhaps the Division can be used to foil Terrorist Attacks!?
